06 · CARGO TYPES

Cargo categories for UK

Select a cargo category for shipping conditions, packaging guidance and information to prepare before dispatch.

Packaged food

Photos of labels, ingredients and expiry dates are required. Products containing meat, milk or animal ingredients need particular checks.

Information to provide: food name, label and ingredient photos, expiry date, quantity, weight and intended use in UK.

Before packing: specify whether goods are dry, fresh, frozen or contain animal or plant ingredients. Ask Gia Phu to check acceptance for the route before dispatching any goods.

Packing: keep labels clear and packaging sealed; discuss leak prevention, moisture protection and storage needs for your goods.

Clothing & accessories

Prepare an item list, quantities and new/used condition. Clearly distinguish personal effects from commercial goods.

Information to provide: a list of clothing and footwear, materials, brands, quantities and whether items are new or used.

Purpose of shipment: specify personal effects, gifts, samples or commercial goods in UK so Gia Phu can check suitable options.

Packing: dry items, protect against moisture and support the shape of shoes and bags; provide final box dimensions, item values and any available invoices.

Cosmetics & liquids

Provide ingredients, volume and packaging type. Aerosols, flammable products and liquids require separate assessment.

Information to provide: product name, brand, label and ingredient photos, volume per bottle, quantity and purpose of shipment to UK.

Items requiring individual checks: declare perfume, aerosols, alcohol-based products or liquids. Send product documents and safety data sheets, if available, so Gia Phu can assess shipping options.

Packing: retain original labels, seal containers, prevent leaks and add cushioning after acceptance has been confirmed.

Personal items & gifts

List each item, its value and purpose. Do not describe an entire box simply as gifts or personal items.

Information to provide: list every item in each box, quantities, condition and value; specify personal effects or gifts for the recipient in UK.

Check each category: if a package includes food, cosmetics, medicines or battery-powered equipment, describe these separately for Gia Phu to check in advance.

Delivery preparation: recipient name, phone number, full address and postcode where applicable; confirm the delivery location and charges included in the quotation.

Devices & goods with batteries

Declare the device, battery type and installation method. Do not conceal batteries or include loose batteries without instructions.

Information to provide: device name, model, purpose, new or used condition, quantity and value.

Declare batteries clearly: state whether batteries are included and whether they are installed or separate; provide battery specification photos and product documents if available. Gia Phu will check shipping options to UK before packing.

Packing: protect the device against impact, pack accessories separately and discuss battery packaging with the receiving branch.

Samples & large packages

Provide the use, materials, value and dimensions of each package so packing and shipping options can be assessed.

Information to provide: cargo photos, intended use, materials, number of packages, weight and length × width × height of each package.

Planning your shipment: state whether goods can be disassembled, whether a wooden crate or pallet is needed, and the collection/delivery conditions in UK.

Before confirming a price: agree on charge calculation, packing, loading and delivery arrangements for the actual address.

Prepare descriptions, quantities, photos, ingredients and packaging details for goods sent to UK. The categories below require checks before acceptance is confirmed.

    Frequently asked questions

How long does shipping to UK take?

Transit time depends on the method, departure schedule, cargo type, customs processing and final delivery postcode. Tell Gia Phu your preferred arrival date to check schedules; estimates are confirmed per shipment, rather than a fixed number of days for all parcels.

Do I need a postcode or just the city name in UK?

Provide both the postcode and full address: recipient name, house/apartment number, street, city and phone number. London or Manchester alone is insufficient to check the delivery point and related conditions. For dormitories or companies, include the building name and receiving department.

Are gifts to family automatically exempt from duties?

No. Labelling a shipment as a gift does not automatically make it duty-free. Gifts must meet UK conditions; values and item types must still be declared accurately. Discuss duties, fees and the paying party in the quotation beforehand.

Can I send dry food, cosmetics or battery-powered equipment?

Each product must be checked before acceptance. Send photos of labels, ingredients, packaging and quantities; for equipment, include battery type and condition. Do not combine these with general cargo before receiving guidance.

Is shipping to Northern Ireland the same as to England?

Specify Northern Ireland and the postcode. UK guidance distinguishes Great Britain from Northern Ireland for goods arriving from abroad; Gia Phu will check the shipping option and documents for the exact delivery address.

    What does the quotation include?

Ask for confirmation of freight charges, packing if applicable, address-specific delivery, surcharges and how import duties/fees are handled. Do not assume shipping charges include all obligations in the UK.

Can I get advice before boxing my goods?

Start with photos, quantities and estimated dimensions. The quotation must be rechecked against the packed shipment. For fragile or bulky goods, discuss protection before packing them yourself.
